Interpreting Retrieval Results
Discovered Items
Items reported as being Discovered can be in one of two categories. Any hyperlinks within the path prefix of the page you are retrieving are discovered and marked for retrieval. Any hyperlinks that do not fall within the path of the page you are retrieving are discovered, but are not marked for retrieval. These links will appear grayed in the Retrieval View.
Retrieved Items
Items reported as being Retrieved have been pulled from the specified source into the WebCD project.
Example
Lets say you enter the following URL for retrieval (either as the starting URL entered when using the Project Wizard, or using the New URL option, selected from the Retrieve menu):
http://www.abcdefg.com/
When you retrieve, the following items are retrieved:
![]() |
The host www.abcdefg.com is the URL you are retrieving. |
![]() |
The document URL www.abcdefg.com is abcdefgÆs home page and is not only marked for retrieval, it has been retrieved (see the Description of Retrieval Icons). Discovered URLÆsÆ inherit the retrieval property from their parent. This URL is in the path specified as the starting URL, and therefore inherits retrieval. |
![]() |
The folder CD-Rinfo, and the document calrcd.htm are also marked for retrieval due to this inheritance. However, calrcd.htm has not yet been retrieved. |
![]() |
Finally, the host, www.mnopq.com, is not marked for retrieval. This URL was discovered because one of the pages beneath the starting URL referenced it (contained a hyperlink to it). Because this URL does not fall beneath the starting URL path, it is not marked for retrieval. |
Note You may switch the retrieval setting for any folder or document. See Changing URL Retrieval Properties.
